In Their Own Words

Today we continue to celebrate Home Education Week with Dana of Principled Discovery who asks:Share your children’s home education experience in their own words. What have they said about their education? What are their likes and dislikes? Share some stories, some quotes, or turn your blog over to your children for the day.

I wrote as my kids dictated since we were all having a crazy day–Rachel proofread and rephrased hers, the other two didn’t because it was past bed time.
Rachel, age 10:

I like that we don’t have to do text books but we get to write poems, read books, write our own books, and we do math when we cook and do projects on our own. We like to make our own toys, too.

I wouldn’t get to spend time with my family if I wasn’t home schooled. I love playing games with Mommy and Daddy. My brother and sister and I play educational games which is even fun because we want to play them ourselves. We can play outside in our big back yard, playing together and getting to spend time together and learning to be with kids our own age and kids older and younger instead of just one age at a time.

We visit our neighbors who are retired when we see them outside–we do yard work with them and cook for them. I love to cook. I also like selling things–last year we had a yard sale and I was in charge of it. A lot of people came and I did baking for it and sold cookies.

Esther, age 8:

Well, I get to spend to spend time with Daddy and Mommy, and I like to play outside, read books, and be with my brother and sister. I love to draw and play on the computer and Gamecube. I love the seesaw and riding my bike. And once I squished my ankle doing that but I was okay–I just had to put ice on it. Mommy reads to me every night chapter books and different stories. We visit grandma every week. And I like to go to the library.

Issac, age 6:

I like playing cars and bumping my cars into each other, like a crash. Bumper cars was at the races. I like reading to Daddy at night. I am reading May I Help You? to Daddy at night. I like to help work doing the the garbage, making coffee, throwing the dirty laundry down the steps. I like playing baseball by throwing the ball up in the air and hitting it at the right time. Sometimes I do “boing” because it is closest, closest is easiest when it comes down. I like looking at Mommy’s pictures and I like my blankie. I am learning to plant the garden and I like summer when I can play in the sprinkler.I like Gamecube, Super Mario Sunshine, I like playing computer games and board games. That’s all.
